From The New Yorker: What Did Jesus Do?
The New Yorker is doing a fairly good job of reporting on the church lately -- an article on women bishops in the C of E a few weeks ago, and this week, an article on the gospels and their sources and composition by critic Adam Gopnick.
Gopnik makes a great analogy between Malcolm X and Jesus in terms of how representations of their lives developed in the early decades after their deaths -- from Alex Haley to Spike Lee and from Paul to the Evangelists. Good reading.
